Brazil: Film Music

During my years in Brazil now I had the wonderful opportunity to meet inspiring musicians. Two of them percussionist Simone Sou and guitarist Douglas Lora.

I played a duo concert with Simone in 2008. She is a creative musician who constructs her own instruments out of pots and pans (and in tune!!!) Above that she is a great drummer who performed for a long time with Chico Cesar. Furthermore, Simone asked me to record melodica for a cd recording at the studio of Chico.

Douglas is one of the most versatile guitarists I’ve ever met. He shifts from contemporary classical music to chorinos, plays with the same ease samba and jazz. He is part of the Brasil Guitar Duo, a young and promising guitar duo that already manifests themselves for several years in the international music scene. In the fall of 2011 I hope to record a new composed work for the Brasil Guitar Duo and dutch saxophone group Amstel Quartet.

When I was commissioned to write film music for two dutch movies I asked Douglas and Simone to record the music with me. The title song ‘O Mar’ is sung here by Morais Matuoka, founder of Clube da Musica Atibaia.
