Basement Jaxx

The combined forces of Basement Jaxx‘s uniquely skewed take on dance music, the Metropole Orkest‘s cutting edge approach to orchestral interpretation took blaze by storm for two nights at Barbican Centre, London. I could give their ‘Do Your Thing’ a retro-swing-orchestration, whereas I coloured ‘Samba Magic’ with some sounds of Brazilian Big Band Styles…

Here is a small ensemble version I created for DE WERELD DRAAIT DOOR, a daily tv magazine:

Pecker is an animated film about the struggle of living together. Amongst other things.
It’s short and sweet. And so is the trailer. Or the teaser.

Written and directed by Erik van Schaaik.
Animated by Patrick Raats and Erik van Schaaik.
Produced by Jiek Weishut, the Drawing Room

Erik made a great making of… of the music recording session at Studio Fattoria, with engineer Chris Weeda.

When the film ‘the phantom of the cinema’ breaks, the light behind the screen is turned on and we the audience are witness to the life and struggles of?a cinema-owner, the toilet cleaning woman and…the technician.?In a desperate attempt to get the screening going again they tumble and fall through their small chambers located behind the screen. This film is Erik van Schaaiks second movie in what will be a trilogy of films using silhouettes. It started with the much awarded short ‘Vent’.

With the voice talent of Michiel Romeyn en Domenic Kelly. Music by Martin Fondse.

Recorded on his prehistoric mobile. Erik was taking a stroll during the 3D animation process for The Phantom Of The Cinema. Pondering away…
